The short answer

Rockstar has confirmed a premise, not a plot. Grand Theft Auto VI follows two leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, who get pulled into a criminal conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida after a robbery goes wrong. That is what Rockstar’s own site says. Anything more detailed than that, including most of what circulates online as a “story leak,” is not something Rockstar has confirmed.

What Rockstar has actually said

Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI site describes the setup this way: Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them, and when an easy score goes wrong, they end up on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in the middle of a criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state of Leonida. From there, the two of them have to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.

Rockstar’s companion page, Only in Leonida, adds background on the two leads directly. Jason grew up around grifters and crooks, then did a stint in the Army before ending up in the Leonida Keys working for local drug runners. He is looking for something better, though it is not going smoothly. Lucia’s father taught her to fight, and life kept coming at her the same way. A fight to protect her family landed her in Leonida Penitentiary, and she got out on luck rather than a clean record. She wants the better life her mother always talked about, and this time she intends to build it herself rather than wait for it.

Rockstar’s site frames the two of them meeting as the center of the story it is choosing to show the public. Beyond that framing, Rockstar has not published a plot summary, a mission list, a running time, or an ending.

Why this page does not repeat leaked material

In September 2022, a hacker who went by “teapotuberhacker” posted roughly 90 videos to the forum GTAForums, showing about 50 minutes of unfinished, work in progress GTA 6 footage. The material was taken from Rockstar’s internal Slack groups without permission. Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, filed takedown notices against the videos and forum threads, and reporting at the time described it as one of the biggest leaks in video game history. A 17 year old was later arrested and prosecuted in connection with the breach.

That footage still circulates, and a large amount of “GTA 6 story” content online, including character names, scenes, and plot claims, traces back to it rather than to anything Rockstar has released since. This site does not publish or summarize that material as story content, for two reasons. First, it was stolen, unfinished, work in progress footage, not a representation of the finished game Rockstar chose to show the public. Second, treating it as confirmed fact would break the one thing this site is for, which is telling readers only what has actually been confirmed.
